Taylor’s College Trailblazers and Forest Friends do their bit

Taylor's College Sri Hartamas studentsOver three weekends in July 2013, students from Taylor’s College – Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur Campus volunteered their time and energy to do some trail maintenance and other works at the Kota Damansara Community Forest Reserve (KDCF) as part of their Forest Friends programme.

Armed with rakes and strong volunteerism spirit, 12 students tidied up the Temuan and Scouts Trails over three hours on 6 July. They did a fantastic job and many forest users were in full appreciation for their wonderful efforts!

A week later on 13 July, 65 students and teachers helped to reforest the northern section of the KDCF. The effort was in coordination with the Selangor Forestry Department and 10 forestry staff were on board to help the students. Some 120 seedlings of four forest species were successfully planted in the area, which will be part of the future northern gateway to KDCF. It is also hoped that the area will improve connectivity between KDCF and the small Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve at the Forestry Training Centre.

In the three hour period too, the students and teachers managed to carry out some 2 kilometres of trail maintenance work through the Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve as well as removed some weeds from sandbags in the tree nursery. Three KDCF Society volunteers were also there to help the students.

On the last session on 27 July, some students volunteered to sweep and tidy up the new trail in KDCF called Sahabat Trail.

Thank you Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas for supporting KDCF through their Forest Friends programme. Every little bit counts!
